Activity: English Drama "Hamlet” performed by Doves Tales Theatre Company
Activities: Hamlet is a renowned Shakespeare’s play depicting a revenge story. The ghost of the King of Denmark tells his son Hamlet to avenge his murder by killing the new king, Hamlet's uncle. Hamlet feigns madness, contemplates life and death, and seeks revenge. His uncle, fearing for his life, also devises plots to kill Hamlet. The play ends with a duel, during which the King, Queen, Hamlet's opponent and Hamlet himself are all killed.
On the day of performance, the drama was first introduced by two student MCs. All S1-6 students were entertained by the hilarious performance of actors and actress beginning with the famous saying, "To be or not to be.” Then, the drama show of Shakespeare's iconic tragedy was brought to life, immersing students in the emotional turmoil of Prince Hamlet as he grappled with betrayal, revenge, and existential despair. The ghostly presence of his father set the stage for a gripping exploration of duty and moral ambiguity. Through powerful performances and striking visuals, audiences experienced the intensity of Hamlet's inner conflict and the consequences of his choices. Towards the end of the show, four energetic teachers were invited to perform a funny dance with Prince Hamlet. The drama of Hamlet concluded with an unexpected twist, leaving the audience both laughing and reflecting on deeper moral lessons. While the play is renowned for its themes of tragedy and revenge, the final moments also highlighted the absurdity of human ambition and the folly of our actions. Characters confronted their fates with a mix of dark humor and poignant realization, reminding us that even in the darkest tales, there is room for laughter and a chance to learn. This blend of comedy and morality invited us to ponder our own choices and the complexities of the human experience.
